Support Services includes the Investigations, Communications, Records, Animal Control, and Parking Control Units. In addition the Support Services Division provides administrative and support functions to the police department, to include recruitment, computer operations, budget, purchasing and accounts payable.
Animal Control
The Animal Control Unit is responsible for responding to all domesticated animal related complaint calls, picking up and disposing of animal carcasses, picking up and transporting injured animals, and educating the public on animal related ordinances and care issues.
There is an animal control officer available seven days a week. The shelter is open 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday. You may contact them by telephone at (816) 274-6024. The shelter is located at 2020 Bedford, North Kansas City.
Communications Unit
The Communications Unit provides continuous telephone and radio contact with officers while coordinating all police, fire and ambulance responses within the city. Computer-Aided Dispatching (CAD) software is used to process calls and track information crucial to each call.
The North Kansas City Communications Center is currently staffed by one supervisor, nine full-time dispatchers, and one part-time dispatcher. This department is a critical link between citizens and emergency services. Each Communications Officer must maintain re-certification every three years on the MULES computer system and annually on REJIS. These personnel also assist in the processing of detainees and coordinating transportation/bonding with our housing agent.
Investigations Unit
The Investigations Division consists of the Detective Unit, Traffic Unit and the Commercial Vehicle Unit.
Detective Unit
The Detective Unit currently consists of three detectives. Their mission is the investigation of all crimes to the termination of leads, with the goal of bringing the cases to a successful conclusion. They also monitor crimes and forward pertinent information to other agencies. The Investigation Division and the Patrol Division interact to determine crime trends and develop strategies to counteract criminal activity.
The police department relies on the on-going positive relationship with our residential citizens and our commercial citizens as investigations are conducted.

Traffic Unit
Staffed with two-full time officers, the responsibility of the Traffic Unit is the enforcement of traffic laws with the intention of reducing personal injuries and property damage due to vehicle crashes. Accessible to six State or Federal highways, North Kansas City has an estimated daily traffic volume of 200,000 vehicles.
Commercial Vehicle Unit
The Commercial Vehicle Unit is responsible for monitoring and enforcing State, Federal and Local law's pertaining to the safe operation of commercial vehicles in the city of North Kansas City. In addition to conducting safety inspections, the unit also enforces size, weight and load laws related to commercial vehicles. The goal of the unit is to insure the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles and to protect North Kansas City's infrastructure. All statistics are reported to the Commercial Vehicle Safety alliance in Washington, D.C., a unit of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Parking Control
The mission of the North Kansas City Parking Control Unit is to create a fair use of available parking within the city by enforcing parking laws within in the city. Parking enforcement activities include, but are not limited to, time zones, fire zones, handicapped parking areas, loading zones, abandoned vehicles and code enforcement issues.
