Tapping Connection Permits
All taps into the City water system, sanitary sewer taps, storm sewer taps, and fire suppression taps require a competed permit application and paid tapping fees before a tap permit can be approved. Before an application will be approved, you must already have all relevant building permits issued from the Community Development department. You must also have a right-of-way excavation permit from the Public Works department for any work being done in the public right of way. The applications for tap and right of way excavation can be submitted at the same time if the building permits have already been issued.

Water Meters
When you need to replace or install water meters connected to the City water system, this information will help guide you through the correct steps and contacts.
When you are ready to install a water meter, please email watermeters@nkc.org or call Public Works at 816-274-6004. Before you call or email, please have the following information ready to provide:
- Name and phone number of person who will set up the water billing account
- Email address for communications with the water department
- Address for the meter installation
Ordering New Meters
Once the above information is received, the water department will contact you to provide the criteria for the correct meter that is compatible with our automated meter reading system and where to order them. All meters to be installed must be shipped to the address below:

This is to confirm compatibility and record meter identification numbers.
Once the meter information is recorded the Water Department will notify you to contact the Finance Department at 816-274-6000 to create your billing account. Once the billing account setup is completed you can pick up your meter and have your selected City approved master plumber perform the installation per City Code 13.04.060. Once installation is complete, you must contact Public Works to schedule an inspection.
