IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR TRASH, RECYCLING, AND YARD WASTE COLLECTION
Beginning December 3, 2024, GFL will be the residential trash, recycling, bulky items, and yard waste hauler for the City of North Kansas City.
Your weekly Trash and Recycling collection day will be Tuesday.
Each Tuesday, GFL will collect the contents of your 65-gallon trash and recycling carts. Please follow these tips for easy and efficient collection.
- Set materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
- Place trash in the black cart and recycling in the green cart.
- Place carts within three feet of the curb, away from other objects, not blocking sidewalks, and with wheels facing the residence.
Customers can recycle the same mix of paper, cardboard, and containers (plastic, aluminum, and steel) that they currently recycle. Please make sure materials are loose, clean, and dry. Lids can be left on plastic bottles. Residents can recycle food and beverage cartons (however, NOT fast food or takeout containers; no frozen food containers). Plastic bags, glass, and Styrofoam are not accepted. Do not bag your recyclables.
Trash & Recycle:
- All trash and recycling must be placed in containers. Only items placed in the containers will be collected. Residents can purchase excess bag stickers at City Hall (2010 Howell St.) or by calling GFL customer service at (816) 380-5595. A sheet of 5 stickers costs $10. Each additional bag must be affixed with an overage sticker and placed next to the trash cart.
- Households may establish individually billed accounts for additional solid waste carts for weekly collection for $10 monthly.
- Construction materials will not be collected in regular waste or bulk item pickup.
- GFL observes the following holidays: Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. If your collection day falls on or after the holiday, your materials will be collected one day later.
Yard Waste:
- You can place up to 10 biodegradable paper bags of yard waste or tied bundles of limbs within three feet of the curb each week, March 1 through December 31.
- Yard waste (grass clippings, leaves, plants, small shrubs, and limbs less than 2 inches in diameter) must be placed in biodegradable paper bags not to exceed 40 pounds. Bundled materials must be no more than 4 feet long or 18 inches in diameter. Residents may set out up to 10 total items (bags, bundles) each week.
- Fencing, landscape timbers, flowerpots, yard decoration, mulch, rock, dirt and similar items are not considered yard waste and will not be collected.
- Note: Please be mindful that the 40-pound limit for yard waste bags and containers can be quickly exceeded with the addition of acorns and other nuts.
Bulky Items:
- GFL will collect up to five residentially generated bulk items per residence on the first Tuesday collection of each month. Bulky items are household items that one or two individuals can reasonably carry. Excluded items will not be collected. While not required, residents are encouraged to contact GFL at (816) 380-5595, kccustomercare@GFL.com or message the GFL KC Facebook page, at https://www.facebook.com/GFLenvKC/
at least 24 hours prior with your address and a description of the bulky item you plan to set out.
- Bulk item collection includes couches, chairs, dressers, mattresses, tables, desks, windows, doors, appliances, etc.
- Bulk item collection excludes electronics waste items such as televisions and computer monitors; hazardous wastes; tires and automotive parts; and construction materials.
- White goods set out for bulky item collection must be certified free of CFCs (used as refrigerants in small and large appliances manufactured before 2003).
