If you could connect Kansas City, North Kansas City, and Riverside with a bicycle and pedestrian trail, how would you do it? The cities, in coordination with the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), are developing the Missouri River North Trail project to explore how the connection could be made. Attend the public meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Kansas City's North Community Center Multipurpose Room (3930 NE Antioch Road) to comment on potential opportunities and challenges with the project. A formal presentation will be given at 5:45 p.m.

During the meeting, the public will be able to review and comment on options for the trail. They will be based on technical analyses, input from public agencies, and other information. Staff members from the cities, MARC, and the consultant team will be present to listen to comments and answer questions. Online commenting will be available at www.surveymonkey.com/r/MORiverNorthTrail through February 7. Community members from across the region are all invited to participate. Public input will help refine options for the trail and inform potential implementation priorities.

The Line Creek and Missouri River Trails are the backbone of a multi-jurisdictional trail system in Platte County that connects Kansas City, North Kansas City, and Riverside. But there are several barriers to fully connecting the trails together including highways, railroads, and steep river bluffs. The goal of the Missouri River North Trail project is to determine how to connect the existing trails in Platte, Clay, and Jackson Counties to each other and provide access to the parks and destinations in the area. This system will also provide a multimodal transportation network in the heart of the region that connects residents to employment centers. The planning process began during the fall of 2023 and will continue through the summer of 2024.
