Armour Road - a major connector in NKC
Much has been accomplished in the short time since the 2016 North Kansas City Master Plan was developed. That plan envisioned a paradigm change in North Kansas City to revitalize the city through enhancing the character and uniqueness of the community, attract new residents and businesses, and improve the multimodal transportation option in the city. Since this time, numerous improvements have been planned and some already realized.
Moving forward to connect us all
The City has worked hard to eliminate barriers in the city to cyclists and pedestrians. Armour Road was once a major barrier in the city for non-motorized transportation, but thanks to the Armour Road Complete Street Plan and the subsequent implementation, this barrier has been largely overcome. However, one substantial roadway barrier still exists on Armour Road -- Interstate 35/29.
I-35/29 bisects North Kansas City, dividing Northgate and the Avenues from major employers such as the NKC Hospital and Cerner, and residents of River Forest from downtown. High speeds and high traffic volumes make it unsafe and uncomfortable for pedestrians and cyclist, especially with circuitous paths where crossing high-speed highway ramps is required.
