Friday Greetings,

In response to the global Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, Mayor Stielow has issued the seventh amended order which will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2020, unless and until the order is extended, rescinded, superseded, or amended in writing.  The North Kansas City amended order is in addition to, and supersedes, the Clay County Public Health Emergency Order Amended on 7/14/2020. To view the complete order or for more information, visit www.nkc.org/coronavirus.  The seventh amended order includes three changes to the previous order:

1. Extends the requirement that all employees or visitors to any indoor public accommodation must wear face coverings or masks that cover the nose and mouth until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2020.
2. Updates the recommendation that minors over the age of two wear face coverings to match the current CDC guidance.
3. Prohibits the gathering of more than 50 people on City-owned property except for City-sponsored events where the City maintains control of the planning, organizing, supervising, and carrying-out of the event.

The NKC Police patrol and traffic officers are making a concerted effort to address concerns about speeding and other dangerous driving habits in the residential area of City Council Ward 3.  Officers have deployed both the covert and overt radar recording signs in this area at different times to better target enforcement.  Officers are unable to pull stop data, specific to a location, where a citation was not issued – but they can pull data when a citation is issued.  From June 24 to July 22, 2020, the department issued 47 citations in this area.  Of these, 23 were for stop sign violations, 7 were for speeding, and the rest were other moving and registration violations.

Recent emergency repairs to water lines were made at Armour and Swift, and on East 20th Avenue, just east of Burlington. Restoration of the sidewalk and curbs on Armour Road is expected to be completed today. East 20th Avenue, from Buchanan to Burlington will continue to be closed for restoration of the street until Wednesday, July 29th. During both repairs, it was necessary to close water valves, which caused temporary water outages for several residents and businesses. The City apologizes for the inconvenience of those who experienced temporary water outages during these necessary repairs.

The North Kansas City Road District has placed barricades and traffic cones along Iron Street, from Armour Road to East 25th Avenue in preparation of an upcoming asphalt overlay project. The project is scheduled to begin at approximately 7 a.m. on Monday, July 27. At that time, the contractor will place barricades and cones to block access to Iron Street.  The project is expected to be completed by the end of the day on Wednesday, July 29th.  During certain periods of the project, access from Iron Street will be closed to the 800 block of East 21st to East 25th Avenues. When access from Iron Street is closed with barricades or traffic cones, residents will access their residence from Knox Street. A temporary ‘Two-Way Traffic’ sign will be placed at the intersections of one-way streets whenever access to Knox is closed.
The Road District is aware that graduation ceremonies will be held at the high school stadium on Monday and Tuesday evenings, and ensuring those who are attending will have access to the parking lot at 24th and Iron on those evenings.
