Friday Greetings,

New City Council Members Anthony Saper, Lisa Tull and Amie Clarke, and returning City Council Member Zachary Clevenger took their Oath of Office on Tuesday, June 19.  To view the City Council Members visit, http://www.nkc.org/government/elected_officials/council_members.

On June 16, the City Council entered into an agreement with the Northland Assistance Center to distribute $15,000 of CARES funds for emergency financial assistance to individuals and families directly impacted by a loss of income due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. If you are a North Kansas City resident in financial need due to the COVID-19 event, please reach out to the Northland Assistance Center at (816) 421-2243.

When the QuikTrip store located at 1010 Armour Road (north side of Armour between Knox and Linn) was operating, the westbound roadway transitioned from two thru lanes to one via a forced right turn into the QuikTrip parking lot at Linn Street. With the closure of the QuikTrip a dead-end situation was created for the outside lane at the delineators that were placed just past Linn as part of the Armour Road Complete Street project. The Council voted to extend the outside travel lane to Knox Street, where there will be a forced right turn.  Municipal Services crews are in the process of removing the previous street markings and will install new street markings and complete the transition early next week, weather pending.

The Community Shred Event is this Saturday, June 20 from 9 a.m. to Noon at City Hall. This free event provides residents, businesses, and the surrounding communities with an opportunity to have their confidential documents destroyed on site.  Participants may bring a maximum of 3 boxes (box size is compatible with a copy paper box). Please secure your documents in a closed container — bags often tear or rip open, leaving your documents unsecured. Paper clips and staples are acceptable and can be left in your paperwork.

On June 16, the City Council approved the creation of a temporary parklet license to permit the conversion of on-street parking spaces to uses such as curbside patio seating. Screenland Theater has submitted a temporary parklet license to convert several of its parking spots into a curbside patio seating area.  Municipal Services will install large concrete barriers early Monday morning under the supervision of public safety officials. These barriers will be funded using CARES funds.

At a Special City Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 23 at 6 p.m., the City Council will consider the CARES Small Business Grant Applications.  This program is administered by the Clay County EDC and will issue up to$150,000 in grant funds to small businesses in North Kansas City.  To view the agenda, http://nkc.org/common/pages/DisplayFile.aspx?itemId=1682889.

The Tim C. Crummett Family Charitable Fund Projects Committee is commissioning a new, original public art mural with a project budget of up to $8,000. The 2020 mural will create an uplifting and positive message of how the North Kansas City community came together during these uncertain times.  The mural will be on the south wall of FDF Wealth Strategies located at 1609 Swift Street, North Kansas City, MO 64116.  The Call to Artists will be open until Friday, June 30. For applications or more information, visit www.nkc.org/publicart.
