Friday Greetings,

City Administrator Eric Berlin advised the Mayor and City Council last night of his intention to retire in the not-distant future.  “It has been my great honor and privilege to serve the governing body and the citizens of North Kansas City,” said Berlin.  “In the time remaining, I will work with the City Council to develop and adopt a City budget, tie up some loose ends, and work in any way I may be asked to assist in the recruitment of my successor.”  Berlin began his service in North Kansas City in June, 2014.  Prior to that, he served as City Manager in Raymore, Missouri, City Manager in Platteville, Wisconsin, and City Administrator in Spring Hill, Kansas.

Public Works Director Pat Hawver retired on Friday, March 19 after 17 years with the City.  Thank you Pat for your service to our organization and we wish you well in your retirement!  

Municipal Services installed the second temporary parklet of the 2021 season at Cultivar KC and Rino.  The parklet features both concrete and steel barricades so that staff can remove the steel barricades to allow for customer parking when the parklet is not in use.  

Julie Alt joined the Public Works Department on Monday, March 15 as an Administrative Assistant. Welcome aboard!

Aaron Schank joined the Police Department on Monday, March 15 as a part-time Parking Control Officer.  Welcome aboard!

As of 3/6/21, North Kansas City Fire Department personnel had vaccinated 1,396 people at Operation Safe.

Due to an internal error, utility customers that pay their utility bills through ACH set up with the City will see a delayed payment to their account. These customers will not be issued a late fee notice or be charged any penalties. If you have any concerns, please contact City Hall at 816-274-6000.

The Tim C. Crummett Family Charitable Fund Projects Committee, in partnership with Exltube is conducting a Call to Artists for a new, site-specific, original public art mural. The NKC Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year 2020 has been published. The document can be found at www.nkc.org/news/what_s_new 

The North Kansas City High School (NKCHS) will be hosting two movie nights on their football field.  The first event will be hosted by the NKCHS leadership students on Friday, April 23 as a fundraiser for Special Olympics.  This event will be limited to NKCHS students.  The second event will be hosted by Davidson Elementary on Friday, May 7.  This event will be limited to students/families that attend Davidson Elementary school.  Both events will feature COVID protocols including limited attendance, social distancing, and masks.

Operation Safe is vaccinating all eligible Missouri residents. We encourage everyone, especially those in Phase 1B - Tier 3 that opened on March 15, to complete the Operation Safe vaccination interest form at www.operation-safe.com/signup.   If you already completed the form and qualify through Missouri's activated phases and tiers (covidvaccine.mo.gov/priority) but have not yet received an invitation to make an appointment, we urge you to complete this form again and provide your primary phone number and email address.

Help for families struggling financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic is available through a new program launched by Clay County, MO. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program can help families who rent their homes get caught up on past due rent and utility bills.  If you are eligible, make sure to fill out an interest form by clicking the button on our Rental Assistance Portal, which can be found here: https://www.claycountymo.gov/transparency/erap

Waggin’ Trail Dog Park will be closed through Wednesday, March 24. The park staff will be seeding and aerating the fields.  Waggin’ Trail will open back up on Thursday, March 25th.

Boneanza will be Saturday, March 27 from 1- 2:30 p.m. Bring your dog for an afternoon of Easter fun! For a $5 donation, your pup will receive a goodie bag of all-natural/organic decorated dog treats and get to participate in a dog-only Easter Egg Hunt. There will be 500 bone-filled eggs filled with treats from Three Dog Bakery. There will be prizes, pet vendors, and take your dog’s picture as the Easter bunny. Small dog egg hunt will be at 1:30 p.m., large dog hunt at 1:45 p.m.  Photo attached.

Registration has begun for the Pitch, Hit & Run on April 24, and registration for Bob Libbey Invitational Pickleball Tournament ends on Friday, April 16.
