CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)

What is CERT?CERT Logo

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area, and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

You may contact the CERT coordinator by email cert@nkc.org or Officer Michael McNamee. Feel free to also call the direct line at 816-412-7933.

CERT K-9 Handlers Tra... 1 of 13

The weekend of October 8th, two of our NKC CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) members completed a weekend training session at Crisis City, accompanied by NKC CERT coordinator, Officer Michael McNamee. The session was for both search and rescue and human remains detection K-9's and their certified handlers. Crisis City, near Salina, Kansas, is a 156 acre state of the art complex designed to host training for first responders, emergency management and military. Here, the NKC CERT K-9 handlers and their dogs were challenged with obstacles that replicated real life search and rescue crisis scenarios. Congratulations to our CERT members and the K-9's for successful completion of this challenging training session! We truly appreciate the service you voluntarily provide for our community. Way to go!
