Friday Greetings,

The North Kansas City Business Council has announced that today will be the last North Kansas City Farmer's Market for the 2018 season. The extreme drought and hot weather have caused a variety of issues for the market’s vendors, including a limited supply of vegetables. The heat has also been a deterrent to customers venturing out in the extremely hot weather.  The Business Council would like to thank the market’s faithful vendors Bartholomew Beef and Antioch Urban Growers. The City will host discussions later this year to determine what alternatives should be considered to have a vital, community-enriching Farmer's Market for the future.

The City received the North Kansas City Property Tax Assessed Valuations from the Clay County Clerk on Thursday, August 16.  The Proposed Annual Budget for the Fiscal Year 2018-19 is being finalized and will be distributed on Monday, August 20, 2018.

The North Kansas City Police Department has been awarded a grant from the Missouri Police Chief’s Association.  The grant will provide the Department with a new Livescan digital fingerprinting system.  Livescan allows our officers to fingerprint a subject and submit their prints electronically to the Missouri Highway Patrol and the FBI.  This equipment significantly shortens the length of time needed to obtain a subject’s fingerprints as well as the response back from the state and federal agencies.  The value of the grant was $18,125.

The Police Department has begun restoring the specialized unit assignments made possible by the public safety sales tax.  Officer Brian Lawrence is now a full-time community policing officer and will be joined in a few weeks by Officer Aaron Bassore.  Officer Jason Smith is now a full-time traffic unit officer and will be joined next week by Officer Bill Ficken.  Officer Justin Holm is now our school resource officer after leaving the detective unit.  Detective Kale Swing has replaced Officer Holm.  The Police Department is in the process of completing the orientation for the officers joining the specialized units and the training to enhance their skills in these units will be ongoing over the next few months.

Join us on Tuesday, August 21 immediately following the City Council Work Session (around 6:40 p.m.) as we cut the ribbon on the new Armour Road Gateway. All are invited to celebrate North Kansas City’s newest landmark.

Join us on Friday, August 24 at 3 p.m. as we cut the ribbon for Diamond Parkway and the region’s first two-way protected cycle track in the One North redevelopment area. This new road and cycle track connects 16th Avenue to Armour Road east of Interstate 29/35. This event will feature free on-site BCycle checkouts so guests can ‘Ride the Diamond.’
