Friday Greetings,

The Friends of the North Kansas City Public Library are hosting their Annual Book Sale event. The sale concludes April 7 and features thousands of gently used book & movie titles across a variety of genres.

Join us as we celebrate the grand opening of the new Parks & Recreation Center on Saturday, April 7 from 1-3 p.m. at 1200 Clark Ferguson Drive.  Activities include a ribbon cutting ceremony, tours of the facility and an opportunity to meet recreation staff and board members.

Fire Department dispatch operations returned to the North Kansas City Police Department this week.  On February 20, the City Council voted to end the City’s arrangements with the KCMO Fire Department (KCFD) to provide dispatching services for the North Kansas City Fire Department.  Necessary logistical and technical steps were completed, and the changeover occurred on Thursday.  The formal agreement with KCMO has not yet been changed, but because the agreement calls for the City to pay a set amount per call, and calls will no longer be transferred to KCFD, the arrangement is effectively ended.  A revised agreement with KCFD removing the existing dispatch language will be submitted to the City Council in the future, once finalized.

The City of North Kansas City has been selected for the Missouri Municipal League 2018 Innovation Award in the Small Municipality Category (population less than 5,000) for the Armour Road Pop-Up Parklet.  The award will be presented at the Missouri Municipal League Annual Conference at the Awards Luncheon in Branson on Sept. 18, 2018.  Attached is the award-winning submission.

Two new firefighters have completed their orientation and will begin shift operations next week.

Traffic signal equipment has been removed from the intersection of 14th & Iron.  The intersection is now controlled as a four-way stop.

The City of North Kansas City was pleased to once again extend an opportunity to businesses to apply for a grant through the Streetscape Beautification Program. Eleven eligible sites were allocated funding based on the projects percentage area within the City right-of-way. Due to the number of exciting applications we received this year, we were unable to grant the full 50% of the project cost, but instead shared an equivalent percentage of our $16,000 budget.

The City’s Management Team will conduct an orientation with Councilmember-elect Rita Pearce on Tuesday, April 10.

The Library will be closed to the public on Monday, April 23 and Tuesday, April 24 to allow crews to install new carpet.
