Friday Greetings,

Mayor Stielow, several City Councilmembers and staff attended the Missouri Municipal League Annual Conference from Sunday, September 16 to Tuesday, September 18.  The City was recognized with a 2018 Innovation Award in the Small City category for our Armour Road Pop-up Parklet project.  Councilmember Bryant DeLong received a Certified Municipal Officials designation from the Missouri Municipal League and City Clerk Crystal Doss was recognized by the Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers Association as a Certified City Clerk. 

Structural repairs to the 26th Avenue Pump Station have been completed. The pump station was damaged by a motorist on August 19 and was taken offline during the extensive repairs.  Crews are still onsite removing the temporary pumps, repairing the damaged fence and replacing the building’s concrete stairs.

The City has partnered with the Mid-America Regional Council and Clay County Senior Services to become a Community For All Ages.  The City is conducting a community-wide survey as part of the Community For All Ages program. To take the survey visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/nkccfaa or to obtain a paper copy, visit City Hall, the North Kansas City Library or YMCA.   Residents and business owners are invited to join us for a Community For All Ages Meeting on Wednesday, October 3 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the North Kansas City YMCA, 1999 Iron Street. 

The North Kansas City Fire Department completed their Strategic Plan sessions this week and the complete report will be available in early November.  This plan will outline goals and objectives for the Fire Department to accomplish in the next 5 years.

The Citywide Garage Sale is Saturday, September 22.  This event allows residents to do a bit of spring cleaning and maybe even make a little money in the process.  The Citywide Garage Sale does not require a permit to participate.  In case of inclement weather, the event will be held the following Saturday, September 29.

The Road District will close 16th Ave. between Burlington and Linn overnight from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on September 25-26 and October 1-2 for mill and overlay operations.  Truck traffic will be diverted to Armour Road during the overnight closures.
