Friday Greetings,

The North Kansas City Road District’s micro pave project began on Thursday.  The District’s contactor experienced equipment malfunction and will resume operations next week.

Micro pave is an asphalt-based slurry that is spread on asphalt streets to renovate the surface and seal voids.  It dries quickly, allowing streets to be opened within a few hours after it is applied.  Micro pave will be applied to all streets that were crack-sealed within the past two years.

The day before an area is to be paved, a door hanger will be hung on each door, advising residents to move their vehicles by 7 a.m. the following day.  If there are vehicles parked on the street when the contractor is ready to pave, they will be towed a short distance away to allow the contractor to pave.  There will be no tow charge assessed to the vehicle owner.

Staff will be sending out updates via the City’s communication channels as we receive information from the contractor.  If you have any questions regarding this project, you may call the Public Works Department at (816) 274-6004.

The North Kansas City Road District began street renovations on East 16th Avenue from Linn Street to Burlington this week.  The project includes replacing most of the curbs on both sides of the street, milling (removing) 2-5” of existing asphalt, and paving a new asphalt surface.  No Parking signs will continue to be placed along the sides of the street in areas under construction.  The street will remain open to traffic until the paving begins, then traffic will be detoured to East 14th Avenue.

Gateway Arch Update – Mega Industries, the contractor for the construction of the archway at Armour and Burlington began instillation of the support columns for the new archway.  Final construction will entail a brief closure of Buchanan, to provide space for final welding of the arch’s components, and a Saturday closure of Armour Road. We will be notifying area businesses once dates are finalized.
