Friday Greetings,

Municipal Services crews hung a banner over Armour Road congratulating the Class of 2020 on their achievement.  Congratulations Seniors!

On Friday, May 8, the Police Department held an oath-of-office ceremony where they officially welcomed two new Police Officers.  Officer Steven Thompson has been a Recruit Officer since October 1, 2019, and has been attending the Kansas City Regional Police Academy.  Officer Thompson graduated from the academy on May 8.   Officer Joseph McCauley completed his police academy training in December 2019 in Columbia, Missouri.  Both will begin the field training program immediately.

The City Council will host a Special Meeting tonight, Friday, May 8 at 6 p.m. Due to the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and the State of Emergency currently in effect in our area, this meeting will be held virtually, with the Mayor, City Council members and City staff joining the meeting on an online platform.  The public may view the meeting live on Channel 2, the City’s Cable Channel, or the City’s YouTube channel, which can be found on the City’s website at www.nkc.org/live.  To view the agenda, visit www.nkc.org/agenda.

Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Friday in the Park Concert Series dates have been adjusted.  Dates are subject to change at the guidance of the Clay County Public Health Center.  For more information visit http://www.nkc.org/departments/parks_and_recreation/events/friday_in_the_park

City Hall will begin distributing posters for use by North Kansas City businesses encouraging social distancing on May 11.  Call 816-274-6000 to make an appointment.  You will be given a direct line number to call upon your arrival for pickup.  An employee will come to your car and place the posters in your trunk.

If you are interested in an absentee ballot by mail-in ballot for the June 2, 2020, Municipal Election, the Clay County Election Board must receive your information by 5/20/2020.  For more information, visit https://www.claycoelections.com/

Beginning Tuesday, May 26, the North Kansas City Library will offer curbside pick-up of hold items. Starting that day, patrons may place Library holds online, or call the Library to place holds. Once items are available, patrons may call to schedule a pickup time in the Library’s designated parking lot pickup area. To maintain the recommended social distance, this transfer process will be entirely touchless. Currently, the Library plans to offer curbside service Monday-Thursday (10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4-8 p.m.), Friday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and Saturday (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). These curbside pickup times may be adjusted, if needed.

KC Chamber, Kansas City Area Development Council, Mid-America Regional Council, and the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City developed the #SafeReturnKC guide.  This reference guide helps employers safely return employees to the workplace.  Here is a link to the guide: http://www.preparemetrokc.org/covid19/assets/SafeReturnKCGuide.pdf
