Friday Greetings,

The Police Department received a $16,210.30 grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.  These funds have been used to purchase 10 Zoll Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to be placed in all of our front-line police cars.  This critical, potentially life-saving, equipment is compatible with equipment currently utilized by our Fire Department which should aid their response to these medical emergencies.  Thank you to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and all of their generous donors who made this grant possible.

The Police Department had eight members participate in the 40-hour Basic Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) training this week.  This addition brings the department to a total of 18 members who have at least received the Basic CIT, with several receiving advanced CIT training.  CIT officers are based in the general patrol division and work in cooperation with the mental health system, individuals in crises, and families. Trained CIT Police officers carry on the normal duties of law enforcement, but switch to a specialist role when a potential mental health-related crisis is identified.  CIT focuses on de-escalation strategies, and redirecting the individual from the criminal justice system to the mental health care system. In turn, the mental health care system assumes "custody" of the individual, and provides directed and non-restrictive accessibility to a full range of health care and social service options.

Megan Summers will join the Community Development Department on Monday, March 8 as a Permit Technician.  Ms. Summers previously served as a summer intern with the City in 2018. Welcome aboard!

The Yard Waste Program will begin on March 3, and continues every Wednesday through December.  Yard waste (leaves and grass clippings) must be placed in biodegradable paper bags.  Bags are available at City Hall at the discounted price of 10 bags for $2.  Plastic bags and non-biodegradable materials are not accepted.  Small tree branches are accepted; however, they must be bundled and cannot exceed 4 feet in length.
