  • Filing for the April 7, 2020, Municipal Election began on December 17 and will close on January 21, 2020. This year’s election is for one Council member from each ward to serve a two-year term.The following candidates have filed: Ward 1 – Rita Pearce; Ward 2 – Ronald Knight; Ward 3 – Zach Clevenger; Ward 4 – Amie Clarke and Denise Lambert.

     

  • Holiday Information:
    • City offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 25 and Wednesday, January 1.
    • Trash service will not be affected by the Holiday schedule.
    • Bulk Pickup will be available on New Year’s Day.
    • Christmas tree pickup will be available on January 8, 15, 22. Trees must be devoid of tinsel, lights, and all items not originally part of the tree.Place trees where you put yard waste.

       

  • We would like to welcome Nicca Brooks, who will start with the Parks and Recreation Department on Tuesday, January 7 as a part-time Facilities Coordinator. Welcome aboard!

     

  • Councilmember Zach Clevenger has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2020 Community and Economic Development federal advocacy committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC’s federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness.Congratulations, Zach!

     

  • Councilmember Bryant DeLong has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2020 Transportation and Infrastructure Services federal advocacy committee.This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC’s federal policy positions on issues involving transportation, including planning, funding, safety and security of public transit, streets and highways, aviations, railroads and ports.Congratulations, Bryant!

     

  • Last month, the City Council directed staff to make changes to the on-street parking in front of the NKC Post Office to convert the parallel parking into angled parking spaces similar to those in downtown. The City’s contractor is currently planning to do that work next week, weather permitting. This work will entail removing the existing markings and replacing them with new pavement markings; hopefully the work will be completed in one day.
