Friday Greetings,

Officer Ryan Hubbell has been awarded the Gold Award for Valor from the Metropolitan Chiefs and Sheriffs Association. Officer Hubbell received this recognition as a result of his actions during an aggravated assault while he was working off-duty at QuikTrip. Congratulations and thank you for your service to our community!

The City’s Comprehensive Annual Report (CAFR) received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).  The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The North Kansas City Police Department’s tactical robot was deployed today to assist the Platte County Sheriff’s Department on an incident where a subject had barricaded himself inside a house.  The robot was able to enter the house and search areas while deputies were positioned outside in an area of safety.  The subject was eventually located and taken into custody without injuries to him or the deputies.

A very special participant celebrated their 100th birthday with Parks and Recreation staff and their closest friends this week.  We wish Ms. Mary Cook a happy and healthy year!

Downtown NKC is well-known for its wide sidewalks and beautiful honey locust trees. However, the pavers, lights, and trees are all aging and in need of a refresh. The City plans to update the downtown streetscape next year and is gathering feedback on the look and feel of our streetscape. The city will host a community meeting on Wednesday, December 4 to present ideas and hear your thoughts. This open house-style meeting will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Join us at City Hall for the Mayor’s Tree Lighting on Friday, November 22 from 6-8 p.m.  This family-friendly event features holiday entertainment and a chance for you to get your picture taken with Santa Claus.

Parks & Recreation will host their Mistletowne Market at the Parks & Recreation Center on Friday, November 22 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, November 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, November 24 from Noon to 6 p.m.  This event features handmade gifts from local makers and live music.
