Friday Greetings,

The Missouri Animal Control Association (MACA) recently held its bi-monthly meeting on November 10. During this meeting, Animal Control Officer Matt Allen was named Vice-president of the association. Matt will hold this position for the next two years.

Kelli Votypka, North Kansas City Parks and Recreation Director, advised the NKC Park Board last night that she is resigning to take a position as Director of Parks and Leisure Services for a community in Texas.  Kelli has been with NKC Parks and Recreation for over ten years.  Her last official day will be Friday, December 18, 2020.  Thank you for your service to NKC, Kelli, and good luck in your next adventure!

The City of Kansas City, Mo. and the Downtown Council are hosting an online public open house for the Bridging Park & Market study through November 25. Bridging Park & Market is evaluating options for lowering Highway 9 to grade on the south side of the Heart of America Bridge to I-70. The study also includes ways to better connect the River Market and Columbus Park. The community can visit www.downtownkc.org/hwy9 to take part in the public open house, see project updates, and learn more.

Due to the increase of COVID-19 cases in the region, the Police Department has closed its lobby to the public. Phone-in reports will be accepted and liquor license permits will be by appointment only.

The City is making a change concerning the “Comments from the Public” section of City Council agendas.  When the City first went to virtual meetings in April due to the pandemic, and the City was figuring out the logistics of holding meetings in this manner, it was established that people could submit comments before a City Council meeting and City staff would read them into the record.  Later, the City determined a way to allow people to log in to the meeting themselves and speak to the Council, just as they would at an in-person meeting.  This will become the sole procedure beginning with the November 17, 2020 Council meeting.  Anyone can still write councilmembers ahead of a Council meeting with their concerns, of course, but emailed comments will no longer be read into the record during the meeting by City staff.

Heart to Heart International, Kansas City Direct Primary Care, and Clay County Public Health Center have partnered to provide multiple testing events every week, in different areas around Clay County. This testing will be provided free of charge to those who live or work in Clay County, with or without symptoms. A full list of test sites in and around Clay County can be found at clayhealth.com/testing or www.hearttoheart.org/claycovid. November North Kansas City testing dates include:

o Thursday, November 19 from 9 a.m. to Noon at Macken Park
o Saturday, November 21 from 9 a.m. to Noon at the NKC High School
