Friday Greetings,

In September, the Fire Department has received its new 2020 Pierce pumper truck. Over the last few weeks, crews conducted the necessary training and equipment installation required to place the new truck into service.  On Monday, crews celebrated the completion of this process by “pushing” the new truck into the station to officially place this new pumper truck into service.

The North Kansas City Special Road District began micro paving on Monday, October 12. Micro pave operations included 23rd Avenue from Swift to Howell Street, and then, west of Burlington, on 23rd Avenue, 26th Avenue, and Design Drive . The Road District plans to micro pave Bedford Avenue starting October 17-24. Micro pave operations are weather-sensitive and may need to be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

There will be no City Council work session on Tuesday, October 20th.  There is also no planned work session on Tuesday, November 3, as it is Election Day.

The City completed the replacement of two 6-inch water valves on 18th Avenue at Swift this week.

Leaf Pickup Program Begins Monday - City crews will begin vacuuming leaves throughout the residential areas beginning Monday, October 19th.  The program will continue until early to mid- December.  The Leaf Pickup Program was developed to reduce the volume of leaves that enter the storm sewer system and provide a convenient means for residents to dispose of leaves.

Residents are asked to rake leaves to the area between the curb and sidewalk.  If the sidewalk in your area is directly in back of the curb, place your leaves in the grass area next to the sidewalk.  Please do not rake your leaves into the street.  Raking leaves into the street is prohibited by law because they obstruct the flow of storm water and clog catch basins, which can increase the severity of flash flooding.

Delays may occur if rainy weather is experienced because the vacuum equipment is ineffective when leaves are wet.  If you have any questions you may call 274-6004.
