The City of North Kansas City, Missouri, is recruiting for Director of Parks and Recreation.  

The Position
This is an important professional and administrative position of the highest level in the Parks and Recreation Department of North Kansas City, MO.  Administrative duties include annual budget preparation, supervision of full and part-time staff, overseeing maintenance of facilities, bid preparation for contract services and proper accounting of department expenses and revenues; acts as staff liaison with the Administrative Parks and Recreation Board; communicates with the city council and city administrator when their input is needed on parks and recreation issues; ensures that the parks and recreation service delivered to the public is up to date and of a quality nature.  

The Candidate
Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation administration, or related field; advanced degree in recreation or public administration or related field is preferred.  Must have a minimum of two years’ experience in parks and recreation management; knowledge of facilities and equipment needed in a comprehensive parks and recreation program; knowledge of management principles and methods of organizing an staffing for parks and recreation activities; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community groups, social organizations, other city departments and the general public. Must possess excellent communication skills  and the ability to clearly communicate with office staff, park staff, the Board and North Kansas City community officials.    

Other Requirements
Post-offer drug test, physical and background check.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs. occasionally.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule, when needed, to accommodate departmental needs. Work is performed in an office environment and in the field, exposed to weather, and in close quarters; May be required to sit, stand, climb or balance, talk and hear, see, and operate a motor vehicle.

Compensation and Benefits
The starting salary range for this position is $73,518 - $110,282 DOQ.  Benefits include medical and dental insurance; 457 defined contribution retirement plan; pension plan (LAGERS, L6, non-contributory); vacation, sick leave, holidays and personal leave; long-term disability and life insurance; training and conferences; and numerous voluntary benefits such as flexible spending, short-term disability, and more.  The City will pay reasonable relocation costs.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Other Requirements
Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
