City Administration Internship Program

The City of North Kansas City – City Administration Internship Program provides a unique benefit to the City and prospective student interns.  Students will expand their skills and talents with on-the-job experience with professional municipal staff, while contributing to special projects that benefit the community and enrich the academic experience.  The Program is coordinated through the City Administration Office.

Interns will be placed in various City departments as needed and work on a variety of projects that impact a municipal government.

Undergraduate and graduate students must be currently enrolled in a college or university and possess at least a 2.5 GPA.

In addition to the compensation paid by the City, an Intern may participate in the Program in conjunction with an academic course for which the Intern earns academic credit. The Intern may also use the Internship as a pre-requisite to take an academic course or as part of academic course requirements.

The student internship consists of 360-480 hours to be scheduled over 12 weeks to accommodate the summer break for students.  These hours can be scheduled in a flexible manner to allow for evening public meetings. The City of North Kansas City reserves the right to terminate the internship at any time.

  • Submit completed application by provided deadline.
  • Applicants whose education, experience, skills and training most closely match the internship position may be contacted for interviewing and other pre-selection processing.
  • An applicant is considered for selection and is notified; then a criminal background check and drug screening is performed.
