Maintenance Worker-Distribution

Summary of Job Duties: Primary responsibilities include the maintenance and operation of fire hydrants, valves, sewage lift stations, sewer jet truck, water distribution systems and sanitary and storm sewer collection systems. Performs utility locating services. Operate hand tools, power tools and motorized equipment. Clean and maintain shop area, pick up parts, assist in vehicle and equipment maintenance, read meters and maintain records. Assist with snow removal activities as needed.

 

Job Skills: Ability to learn complex procedures and techniques involved in the repair and maintenance of a municipal water distribution and sewage collection system; ability to learn to read and service indicating instruments and meters; ability to learn to maintain charts and records; must be tactful and courteous with customers and employees; must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; must obtain, and maintain, a Class II Distribution license within three years of employment; must obtain, and maintain, a valid Class B Commercial driver’s license with tanker and airbrake endorsements within six months of employment; must obtain certification as a Registered Flagger from the American Traffic Safety Services Association within one year of employment.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Other Requirements: Works in an outdoor environment with exposure to weather-related heat and cold, rain, snow and related elements; works in and on local and state roadways; exposed to working in close quarters, high and precarious places, moving mechanical parts, moving traffic, vibration, fumes and/or airborne particles, sewage, and infectious diseases; may occasionally be required to move up to 200 pounds (such as a manhole cover); be available to respond to after-hours callouts and emergencies or high priority situations.  Frequently interacts with residential and commercial customers. Candidates must pass a post offer background check and drug test.

Pay and Benefits: Starting hourly pay range is $16.23 - $17.95, DOQ. The City offers medical and dental insurance, a pension plan, a retirement plan, a full range of voluntary benefits and paid vacation, sick leave, personal leave and Holidays. 

Miscellaneous:  Selected individual who has water and/or wastewater certifications will be eligible for a higher starting pay rate.
