Alarm Permits
Once your application has been processed you will receive a copy in the mail that will contain your assigned permit number. There is no cost to obtain an alarm permit.

Background Checks

Claiming Held Property
If you have property that is being held as evidence in a police investigation, it will be returned once the case is disposed.

PROPERTY WILL BE RELEASED BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please call 816-412-7948 to schedule your appointment. PROOF OF OWNERSHIP and a PHOTO ID must be presented for release of all property.  We will hold recovered property, other than firearms, for ninety (90) days, before we send it to auction or destroy it, whichever is applicable.

Unclaimed recovered currency is submitted to the State of Missouri’s treasury.  


To claim a firearm being held, please complete the Firearms Release Application prior to arriving to claim your property. Call 816-412-7948 to schedule an appointment.


Concealed Carry Permits If you wish to obtain a concealed carry permit, you must first complete a firearms safety course of least 8 hours in length by a state approved CCW Instructor. You can find approved Instructors by searching the internet. Once you have located an instructor contact the Sheriff’s Office to verify they are an approved Instructor. Driving Records
To obtain a driving record, contact the department of revenue/license bureau closest to you.

Liquor License Permits Liquor licenses can be obtained Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m at the records window in the lobby of the North Kansas City Police Department. To obtain a Liquor ID Card you must bring a valid driver’s license or photo ID and $25.00, payable by cash or check. Applications are available in the police department lobby, or you may complete and print the online application prior to coming in.

Police Reports

Reports may be obtained at the records window in the lobby of the North Kansas City Police Department Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Records may also be requested by mail or ordered online.  Report request forms are available in the police department lobby, or you can access the report request form online at the link below. Please note that online reports are not immediate. Online reports take 1 to 2 business days to process.  The cost for a police report is $12.00. Payment accepted for requests by mail are personal check, cashier's check, business check or money order, made payable to the City of North Kansas City.  Please do not send cash through the mail. Online payment options are Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express.

Report Dangerous Animals
If an animal is presenting immediate harm or danger to a person or other animal, please call 911.  If you need to report an animal that shows signs of being potentially aggressive, please call the non-emergency number at 816- 274-6013.

Report Suspicious Activity
To report suspicious activity you may complete the Suspicious Activity Form and submit your information directly through our website. Your report will be forwarded to the appropriate unit for investigation. Be informed that, dependent on the type of criminal action, police investigation may continue for an undetermined length of time with no publicly visible evidence of progress.

Suspicious Activity Forms submitted by email are NOT monitored on a 24 hour basis. IF THIS IS AN EMERGENCY PLEASE CALL 911.

Residence Check Request
If you are planning to be gone from your residence for an extended time, the North Kansas City Police is happy to provide additional patrol at your residence during your absence. Residence Check Request Forms should be completed and turned into the Communications window in the police department lobby at 2020 Howell Street.

Safe Internet Purchase Transactions

The North Kansas City Police Department welcomes citizens to use our police station lobby as a location to conduct private transactions related to online purchases, such as Craigslist.  The notoriety of crimes wherein a buyer or seller in an internet arranged transaction was victimized has created a need for locations where the public has a sense of security.   Read more...

Taxi Permits

Taxi permits are obtainable Monday through Friday in the lobby at 2020 Howell Street, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m and 1:30 p.m to 4:30 p.m.  To obtain a taxi permit, you must have a valid chauffeurs license, a completed application, a copy of a physical examination received within the last two years and two written personal references from persons who have known you at least six months.  The references must be signed and dated.  Application forms are available in the police department lobby, or you may complete and print the online application prior to coming in.  The cost for a taxi permit is $30.00, payable by cash or check. Permits are valid for two years.
