Tree City USA - Celebrating 20 Years

The City of North Kansas City is celebrating its 20th Anniversary with Tree City USA.  This program has been greening up cities and towns across America since 1976.  More than 3,400 other communities have made the same commitment by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day.

The onset of the Emerald Ash Borer infestation, coupled with the dynamic redevelopment of North Kansas City, has made it imperative to update the tree inventory as a proactive approach.  In 2017, the City was awarded a Tree Resource Improvement & Maintenance (TRIM) Grant up to $25,000 to help fund a complete tree inventory and management plan. The focus of the inventory was to address short-term and long-term maintenance needs for inventoried public trees.

Davey Resource Group completed the tree inventory of 3,060 sites to help the City gain an understanding of the needs of our existing urban forest and project a recommended maintenance schedule for tree care.  Click on Tree Management Plan to see the complete plan.

This inventory was made possible by the Missouri Department of Conservation
