North Kansas City, Missouri is please to announce that it was recently recognized as a Solar Ready Community. North Kansas City received gold level recognition from the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), which acknowledges the work the city has done to implement best management practices and undertake other actions to facilitate and encourage solar power installation.

Cities and counties may earn bronze, silver, or gold Solar Ready Community status, based on the number or action taken. Independence earned the bronze award, Kearney earned silver, and Johnson County also achieved the gold level.

To attain the gold level designation, North Kansas City completed solar installation at several city buildings, created a solar landing page on its website, which includes a link to MARC's solar mapping website, and created a solar permit checklist. North Kansas City also addresses solar energy provisions in its zoning ordinance and posted Solar Ready Construction Guidelines on its website.

MARC developed the Solar Ready Community Recognition Program as part of its Solar Ready II initiative, which is dedicated to making it easier for residents and businesses to use solar energy. The Solar Ready II Program and its predecessor, Solar Ready KC, were funded by Rooftop Solar Challenge awards from the U.S. Department of Energy's SunShot Initiative. The Rooftop Solar Challenge seeks to reduce solar soft costs, such as permits and fees.
