Friday Greetings,

In response to the ongoing global Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, the City Council voted to modify Mayor DeLong's mask order until 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021.  Masks are now only required inside a school building where any students from kindergarten up to and including 5th grade are attending class.  The amendment was executed at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2 and the newly amended order is in effect until November 20, 2021.
The Order states: To ensure that schools may operate as safely as possible, public and private schools shall require face coverings or masks for all persons inside a school building where any students from kindergarten up to and including 5th grade are attending class, unless eating or drinking. All persons must wear a mask when riding on a school bus unless documentation has been submitted to and approved by the school for a medical mask exemption.  For more information, visit www.nkc.org/coronavirus

Artist Andrei Krautsou has begun work on the newest Tim C. Crummett Family Charitable Fund mural on the east wall of Exltube’s Bay 4 on Burlington Street.  Exltube and the Crummett Committee agreed to cost-share the mural due to the sheer size and scope of the wall.  This mural is expected to take up to two weeks to install and will require a lane closure on Burlington during the day to accommodate the equipment necessary to paint the mural.

The 2022 Harrah’s Charitable Fund applications are now available on our website at www.nkc.org or by visiting http://www.nkc.org/common/pages/DisplayFile.aspx?itemId=18095183.  Applications are due on December 17, 2021.  If you have any questions, please contact City Clerk Crystal Doss at 816-412-7815.

The Community Development Department continues to review plans, issue permits, and inspect the progress of development happening across the City. The department issued 19 permits for various residential and commercial projects in October 2021, compared to 20 permits issued in October 2020. The department has issued 214 permits thus far in 2021, compared to 191 permits issued between January and October in 2020. The department monitors and compares the number of permits issued in order to identify areas of growth and opportunity across the city.

Crews worked non-stop for 48 hours into Friday morning to complete the final pipe installations of the Armour Road stormwater repair on Friday.  Underground infrastructure work in this historic area uncovered several issues that needed to be addressed before the road was restored.  What started as a stormwater project is wrapping up with a repair to the 14” watermain located adjacent to the stormwater pipe.  Completing these repairs will improve drainage on Armour Road and improve the functionality of the watermain.  Over the next few weeks crews will be on site to complete surface restoration of the roadway and sidewalks.
