Friday Greetings,

Councilmember Bryant DeLong has been appointed to the Missouri Municipal League’s Board of Directors.  Congratulations Bryant!

The 2020 City Calendars have arrived!  Calendars are available at City Hall, North Kansas City Library, North Kansas City Parks & Recreation Center, North Kansas City YMCA and the North Kansas City Post Office.

On Tuesday, the Community Development Department issued a Certificate of Occupancy for North Kansas City High School.

Ripple Glass is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary.  Over the years, Ripple Glass has recycled over 623 tons of glass collected at the North Kansas City location alone!  The Ripple Glass bin is located in the parking lot of the North Kansas City YMCA located at 1999 Iron Street.

Weather forecasters are calling for accumulations of up to 3” of snow beginning Sunday and continuing on Monday. On Saturday, Municipal Services crews will place mobile Emergency Snow Route/No Parking signs on both sides of Armour Road between Fayette and Linn Streets.  During a declared snow emergency, vehicles are prohibited from parking on Armour Road between Fayette and Linn Streets.  All parked vehicles must be moved from Armour Road between Fayette and Linn Streets by 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 14.  Parking may resume once the snow emergency has been deactivated.  The City will announce the activation and deactivation of the emergency snow route on its website, Textcaster and social media channels.

This year, leaves fell off the trees later in October than normal, and consequently the leaf pickup program has continued later into December than usual. Weather permitting, leaves will be picked up next week for the last time this year.

The 2019-2020 Tree Planting Program is underway.  The City’s contractor, Sunset Landscapes, planted 88 trees this week, and in March another 12 trees will be planted.  Most of the trees were planted to replace trees that were removed due to poor health last year in residential areas. The City’s tree planting policy is referred to as “Right Tree, Right Place”, which means we don’t plant trees that grow more than 30 feet in height under utility lines. Most of the trees this year are various types of maples, all of which have vibrant fall colors.  We are also planting bald cypress, lacebark elm, and in certain areas tulip poplar and ornamental cherry trees.

The Winter 2020 edition of the North Kansas City Connection is now available on the City's website ---> https://bit.ly/2t7EilR   Residents will receive a copy in the mail around the Christmas holiday.

Filing for the April 7, 2020 Municipal Election will begin on December 17, at 8 a.m. in the City Clerk’s office located at City Hall, 2010 Howell Street in North Kansas City.  Filing for the 2020 Municipal Election will close on January 21, 2020.
