Friday Greetings,

We would like to welcome two new hires: Police Officer Cadet Steven Thompson who will begin October 1, and Firefighter/Paramedic Greg Rogers who will begin September 16. Welcome aboard!

Police Chief Steve Beamer has tendered his retirement letter effective January 10, 2020.  Chief Beamer has served this community with distinction for many years and we wish him well on his retirement.  We have begun the recruitment process for this position.

The Proposed Annual Budget for the Fiscal Year 2019-20 has been posted to the City’s website – to view the budget, click here.  A work session on the budget was held September 4th.  A second work session, this one focused on capital projects in the proposed budget, will be held on Wednesday, September 11 at 6 p.m.

The construction of a new QuikTrip at 1401 Armour will require changes to Armour Road (MO Highway 210) from the Ozark Street intersection east to the southbound I-35 off-ramp. The southbound I-35 off-ramp is also being reconfigured.  These changes were approved by the City and the Missouri Department of Transportation, and are being constructed and paid for by QuikTrip because the changes are tied to the construction of their new store. The changes include adding a new left-turn lane on eastbound Armour at Ozark, reconfiguring right turn lanes for better sightlines, and adding crosswalks. Construction should be completed by the end of the year.

Join us tomorrow for the Bicycle Master Plan Open House! The Bicycle Master Plan sets a vision of supporting safer streets, more inviting public spaces, and better access to NKC destinations and regional connections for everyone to enjoy. The September 7 open house gives the community an opportunity to view the final draft of the bicycle network map, help prioritize future improvements, set goals for bicycling in NKC, and provide input to shape the final plan. The open house will be held at the NKC Parks & Recreation Center on Clark Ferguson Drive. Drop by any time between 9:30-11:30 a.m. to learn more and share your feedback. More information is available at www.nkc.org/bike.

On Monday, September 9 at 9:30 a.m., EPA Region 7 Administrator Jim Gulliford will present the City of North Kansas City with the L.E.A.F.S. Award at the One North Redevelopment site.  The brief ceremony will take place near the Medical Office Building in One North.  EPA Region 7 established the L.E.A.F.S. Award to recognize those who have supported the Superfund Redevelopment Initiative through innovative thinking, sustainable practices, and environmental stewardship. The One North Redevelopment site was chosen to receive the L.E.A.F.S. Award due to the City’s outstanding remedial and revitalization efforts.

A second Bicycle Master Plan Open House, specifically tailored to the NKC Business Community, is scheduled for Friday, September 20 from 8-9 a.m. at iWerx. This open house will present the same information and feedback opportunities as tomorrow’s open house. More information is available at www.nkc.org/bike.
