Friday Greetings,

North Kansas City Police Officer Duane Hostikka retired today after 37 years of service to the community.  Duane began his career as a reserve and then became a full-time officer.  During his career, he served as a detective, a member of the Clay County Drug Task Force, and the Special Incident Team.  He has patrolled District One for many years and built relationships with many of the businesses along Burlington and Swift along with the residents who live on the west side of the City.  We wish him well.

Most of the trees that were planted in the One North Development were blown sideways from the high winds and rain-saturated soil during the last week’s storms.  Approximately twenty-five other trees planted this fiscal year were also affected.  The saturated soil caused instability to the root balls at the time the high winds began, causing the new trees to be displaced. The City’s tree contractor has re-staked the trees his company planted throughout the City, and Commercial Lawn Care has re-staked the trees in One North.

The first Friday in the Park Concert will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 7 at the Macken Park Pavilion featuring Tom’s Town.  Each week features a different band and all concerts are free and open to the public.  This event is made possible by the Music Performance Trust Fund and Local 34-627.

Pups & Pumpers will be Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Waggin’ Trail Dog Park (rain date Saturday, June 22).  Attendees can receive a photo of their pup on NKCFD’s Engine #5 for a $10 donation to the KC Pet Project.
