Friday Greetings,

The past several weeks have been particularly busy for the Municipal Service crews with back-to-back snow and ice events. Whenever faced with potential inclement weather, staff is arranged proactively to provide round the clock coverage.  Crews have gone through approximately 250 tons of rock salt and slicer (purple rock salt for extreme temperatures), 150 bags of ice melt, and over 10,000 gallons of brine since the beginning of January.

The Fire Department received its new Matrice 210 drone equipped with an electro-optical and infrared camera.  This drone and its camera both meet the IP-44 standard.  The drone is capable of flying in inclement weather with wind limits up to 22 mph.  The department is working on training pilots on this new piece of public safety equipment.

In the past two weeks, the bonds for both the Aloft and Element hotels and The Backyard apartments in the One North Redevelopment have closed.  The hotel’s construction permits have been issued and the plans for the apartments have been approved.  Staff has a preconstruction meeting with the apartment developer next week and construction activities for both projects will commence in the near future (weather pending).

Due to the road and weather conditions, MoDOT rescheduled the Buck O’Neil Bridge Environmental Study public meeting to Tuesday, February 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the MARC offices at 600 Broadway, KCMO. The environmental study is required prior to rehabbing or replacing the existing bridge. More information about the study and the meeting is available online at https://www.modot.org/buck-oneil-bridge-environmental-study?fbclid=IwAR2-A6lkfZOtVam7e3eZ_H5LUMqCMOC6Pr4kVK1iT5W4pO1E8nPEudndNjs.
