Friday Greetings,

It is with a heavy heart that we report that Fire Captain Mark Skeens passed away this week after a brief but courageous battle with a serious illness.  Mark joined the North Kansas City Fire Department in 2005.

The North Kansas City Road District’s micro pave project is approximately 40% complete and will continue next week.  KSHB 41 recently featured this project, to view the story click here.

The day before an area is to be paved, a door hanger will be hung on each door, advising residents to move their vehicles by 7 a.m. the following day.  If there are vehicles parked on the street when the contractor is ready to pave, they will be towed a short distance away to allow the contractor to pave.  There will be no tow charge assessed to the vehicle owner.

Staff will be sending out updates via the City’s communication channels as we receive information from the contractor.  If you have any questions regarding this project, you may call the Public Works Department at (816) 274-6004.

Sewer repairs underneath the alley between East 28th and East 29th Avenues, from Howell to Swift, were completed on Friday, July 13.  Using underground technology, the sewer main was lined to block ten improperly abandoned service laterals.  The laterals, which once served the Northgate Garden Apartments, were leaking gravel, dirt, and other debris, and clogging the sewer main.

Gateway Arch Update – Mega Industries will soon complete the installation of the new archway sign across Armour Road at the Buchanan intersection. To facilitate the fabrication and placement of the sign, various road closures will take place over the coming days.

Road Closures:
o Wednesday, July 25 through Saturday, July 28, north and southbound lanes of Buchanan Street will be closed between Armour Road and 18th Avenue;
o Saturday, July 28, east and westbound lanes of Armour Road will be closed between Burlington and Clay Street.

The roads will only be closed to through traffic; local traffic needing to access a business will be allowed. The impact of these road closures should be minimal, and we apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Community Development Department at 816-264-6006.
